The start of a new year is often a time for self-reflection, goal setting and thinking about the things we want to change in the year ahead. If 2020 taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected, and to value the things that matter most: relationships, health and home.
As we prepare to ring in 2021, it’s important to remember that the resolutions we commit to and the changes we’d like to make will look different from those of years before. Rather than choose the same resolutions to diet or quit smoking, consider making resolutions that are sustainable, long term and address your deepest needs.
In 2020, many people suddenly became aware of how vulnerable their health, finances and employment were in the midst of a global pandemic and economic challenges. As we approach a new year of continued change, it’s a good idea to rethink our resolutions and choose goals for ourselves and our families that are both attainable, affirming and hopeful.
Here are resolution ideas we love for 2021. From all of us at Signature Management, we wish you your best year yet.
Self-Care
Rather than beat yourself up for not losing the weight or quitting the bad habit, this year, focus on caring for yourself right where you are. 2020 has been a stark reminder of how fleeting life can be, and there is no time like the present to prioritize our care. In the new year, commit to a daily mindfulness practice and seek out support for stress management. Make time for rest, relaxation and connection – three things that will play a huge part in lifting your mood and keeping your mind and body strong.
Time With Loved Ones
This year, commit to connecting to your loved ones as often as possible – even if from a distance. One of the gifts of 2020 is the realization that technology really can help bridge the gaps of physical distance. Prioritize your family and loved ones and nurture the relationships that matter most.
Financial Stability
Make 2021 the year you address your financial goals for both the short and long term. Even if 2020 brought financial setbacks, use this next year to set a new budget, start paying down debt and save for the future. Even taking small financial steps now will make a big difference down the road.
Learn Something New
2021 will likely still include some amount of staying home, so take advantage of the time and learn a new hobby. If you’ve always wanted to learn to sew or study a new language, now is a perfect time.
Mental/Physical Health
Instead of focusing on weight loss or dieting, turn your attention to your overall health and sense of well-being. Prioritize both your mental and physical health this year, by developing daily habits that support you feeling your best. Rather than choosing unattainable fitness goals, choose to walk once a day, eat fruits and veggies at each meal and reach out for mental health support from professionals who know how to help. 2020 took its toll on many people, and 2021 looks like a perfect time to begin to heal.
